Poetry

In his work, James sets the boundaries for determining what counts as a poem as widely as possible and actively pushes those boundaries further. This approach has guided his experimentation in the making of poems for performance and visual forms, as well as for the page.

James’s poems for the page have appeared in anthologies by Verve Poetry Press, Streetcake Magazine, and Sidekick Books. He was a winner in 2020’s Streetcake Magazine Prize for Experimental Writing and was shortlisted in the 2022 Sound of the Year Awards in association with the National Poetry Library.

His micro-chapbook After Words was released as part of Ghost City Press’s 2022 Summer Series and his forthcoming print project, funded by Arts Council England, will explore depictions of dementia in experimental poetry and publishing. His debut collection On the Subject of Fallen Things published by Bad Betty Press is out in November 2023 and is available for pre-order now.
