Visual

James’s work often explores where poetry can expand to meet traditionally visual mediums, whether they be images enhanced or altered by being in combination with words or completely wordless pieces that are still conceived of and constructed as poems. As such, his visual works have taken the form of collage, object poetry, films, visual or concrete poetry, and asemic writing.

James’s visual work has been published by the Paris Collage Collective in association with Te Papa New Zealand and has featured in online exhibitions by Poem Atlas, as well as widely in in-person exhibitions.

His visual poems have recently featured in Sparkling Tongue Press’s ‘Mistranslations’ issue.
